About the event
The Cartmel Fell Volunteers are gathering at the community orchard at 3pm on Friday 16th January to WASSAIL.
Originating from the Old English "Waes Hael" (be well/good health), Wassailing is to bless an orchard for a good harvest and includes drinking warm spiced mulled cider, making lots of noise to "wake" the trees by banging pots and pans and singing Wassail songs, and putting out cider-soaked toast for Robins to encourage good spirits.
Mulled cider and homemade nibbles will be served at 3pm on 16th January 2026 by the Cartmel Fell Volunteers, followed by the Wassail. If you'd like to join us for some Friday afternoon fun, dress up warmly and come along, bring your mug for some mulled cider, and if you have a suitable hat for the job, even better!
